FASTRA representatives judged the Gas Engineer of the Year 2024
We have been supporting young gas engineers for years, and so apprentices from the Brno-Bosonohy Secondary School of Building Crafts can also rely on our long-standing help. This year, in cooperation with the event’s general partner and the largest Czech gas distributor - the GasNet Group, we organised the traditional "Gas Engineer of the Year" competition, the highlight of which took place during the Building Fair at the Brno Exhibition Centre.
8 teams (7 from all over the country - one from Slovakia) competed in several areas. On the first day they had to connect a gas meter to a steel pipe, while the second day featured a knowledge test and a household gas pipeline from a PE line, through copper pipes to a gas boiler. Everything was supervised by commissioners. One from us, and then from Enbra and Hutira.
It was a more than even battle, with two-person teams tackling the drawing documentation and the actual hands-on work. And it was no easy task, as they had a 1mm tolerance on the dimensions and 1° on the inclinations from the horizontal and vertical axis. Any deviation, weld imperfection or visual error cost them valuable points.
The winning team, comprising Michal Končický and Ondřej Chmelař from the Šumperk Secondary School of Crafts, scored an incredible 219 out of 255 possible points and took home prizes from the sponsors and congratulations from representatives of all the companies involved.
It was a pleasure to participate in this event.
