Stoppling DN500 PN40 in Brno – Safe Isolation of Large-Diameter Pipelines

FASTRA once again pushes the boundaries in the field of safe pipeline system isolation. On the GasNet network, the STOPL-S4-F1 stoppling device was successfully deployed, enabling temporary and completely safe flow isolation in a steel pipeline operating at a pressure of up to 40 bar – without any medium leakage to the environment.

Key features of the STOPL-S4-F1 device

  • Operates at pressures from 0 to 40 bar and allows isolation of gas or water without leakage
  • Fast and simple installation, including easy connection of a bypass directly from the stoppling head chamber.
  • High versatility – closes all standard DN500 connection sizes without the need to replace any pipeline section.
  • Compact design – the entire dual-side isolation equipment can be transported on a single truck unit.
  • Hydrogen ready (H₂ ready) and compliant with Czech standards (ČSN) and TPG requirements.

Implementation on the GasNet network

The device was deployed on a pipeline operated by GasNet s.r.o., with the project carried out by Metrostav a.s., represented by Mr. Jan Habrovec. The task was to disconnect and remove an old high-pressure branch and replace it with a new section.

Stopping the gas flow under full operating pressure required precise preparation and experienced welders, who spent nearly three days on preparatory and installation work. The terrain also posed challenges – heavy machinery operated on waterlogged ground, demanding exceptional site coordination.

Importance for safe pipeline isolation

The STOPL-S4-F1 DN500 PN40 represents an important step forward in the field of safe stoppling of large-diameter pipelines. It enables fast, efficient, and environmentally friendly maintenance and repair operations even on high-pressure networks.

This technology significantly enhances safety, efficiency, and flexibility in pipeline works – key factors for network operators.
